Homemade Energy Drink with Green Tea and Coconut Water
By Holly Darnell, RD

Energy drinks that you buy in the store may come with electrolytes and certain helpful nutrients for hydration, but they often also feature different forms of sugar and artificial colors.
Instead, how about making your own energy drink? It’s very doable. This Green Tea Energy Drink is the real deal, as it provides plenty of energy with its multiple ingredients while delivering a wonderful taste. It’ll even be a green tea drink you’ll want to have just for refreshment.
Green tea is full of antioxidants and other beneficial compounds, plus its caffeine content can give you a little bit of a boost without the excessive amounts in certain energy drinks.
Did you know that the primary nutrient in coconut water is potassium? It contains approximately 600 milligrams, making it a high electrolyte beverage and perfect for a homemade energy drink.
Lemons are an excellent source of vitamin C, antioxidants and fiber, and the flavor marries well with green tea in this DIY sport drink.
Ginger often combines well with lemon for certain detox drinks, but it also works well in popular wellness shots. Here it supports healthy inflammation levels with its many micronutrients and antioxidants.
The one Ancient Nutrition ingredient we urge you to also use is Herbal Cider Vinegar tincture. It features over 10 organic, regenerative superfood ingredients, including: fermented turmeric, moringa leafy, sumac berry, guava, passionfruit, holy basil leaf, elderberry, key lime, feijoa and goji. It also provides bioactive compounds, including amino acids, organic acids and polyphenols.
Lastly, honey makes a great natural sweetener, and mint leaves complete the flavor profile perfectly. Raw honey can add even more goodness.
First, heat water to 175-185 F in a kettle or on the stovetop. That’s just before the boiling point, so allow to cool for a few minutes. Pour the water into a mug and add in the green tea bag. Steep the tea for three minutes.
In a medium bowl, add green tea, coconut water, sparkling water, lemon, ginger, Herbal Cider Vinegar and honey. Whisk to combine well and add in mint leaves.
Add some ice and lemon slices to the pitcher. Pour green tea mixture into the pitcher and allow to refrigerate for 30 minutes for optimal mint and lemon flavor.
Add into a sports bottle for your workout, or consider having before or after your workout … or any time of day!
